Tom Waits, Louis Armstrong, Brandi Carlile, Many More Featured on Preservation Hall Jazz Band Comp

As Tom Waits first noted last month, he will be one of several notable folks featured on the latest project by New Orleans’ Preservation Jazz Hall Band.

Pete Seeger, Merle Haggard, Ani DiFranco, Jim James, Andrew Bird, Cory Chisel and the Blind Boys of Alabama join in on PRESERVATION, a Sony RED Distribution release out Feb. 16, AKA: Fat Tuesday. Brandi Carlile will offer her spin on gospel classic “Old Rugged Cross,” and Waits will lend his arrangement of the earliest known recorded Mardi Gras song, “Tootie Ma is a Big Fine Thing.” Also featured is Louis Armstrong, a New Orleans native; a raspy version of his own “Rockin’ Chair” is included on the new record.

The project will benefit the jazz band’s Preservation Hall home, after the group contributes proceeds toward preserving the historic French quarter.
