Acclaimed singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile was a trailblazer of sorts when she became the first musician to perform for the Artists Den’s new, intimate Spotlight series. Joined by longtime collaborators Tim and Phil Hanseroth, she performed three songs from her latest album, Bear Creek — a literally floorboard-shaking rendition of “Raise Hell” and tender, chill-inducing versions of “100″ and “Keep Your Heart Young.” With such an effortless and powerful performance, Carlile couldn’t have kicked off this series any better.

Brandi Carlile has been garnering rave reviews for her heart-wrenching folk-rock and blistering vocals since her eponymous debut album’s release in 2005 earned her a place on Rolling Stone’s list of “10 Artists to Watch.” She gained even more popularity with the release of her second album, The Story, and the single of the same name. Carlile continued her ongoing collaboration with the Hanseroth twins on her fourth album, Bear Creek, which was released in June 2012 and entered the Billboard 200 in the Top Ten.
